Dublin Autism Friendly City Officer

AsIAm is Ireland’s National Autism Charity based in Blackrock, Co. Dublin. AsIAm is a fast paced, growing organisation with a vision to create a society where every autistic person is accepted “as they are” – equal, valued, and respected.  The organisation’s purpose is to advocate for an inclusive society for autistic people that is accessible, accepted and affirming. AsIAm works to support the Autistic community and our families to fully engage in Irish life and build the capacity of society to facilitate true inclusion.

The Role:

Reporting to the Inclusive Community Network Manager the Dublin Autism Friendly City Officer will be responsible for supporting local communities and Dublin City Council in implementing and maintaining the Dublin Autism Friendly City programme.

We particularly welcome applications from within the autism community.

Key Responsibilities:

·       Coordinate the activities of the Dublin Autism-Friendly Steering Committee

·       Support current Autism Friendly committees and promote the creation of new autism friendly committees in the Dublin Area

·       Help local communities to drive Autism initiatives through education, support and advice

·       Report to the National Co-Ordinator of the Autism-Friendly Programme

·       Supportthe development and implementation of 3-year plans within each of the communities and the Dublin City Plan

·       Liaise with other support structures within the organisation to provide co-ordinated supports to communities throughout Dublin

·       Promote the initiative to key stakeholders and at key events

·       Train committee members and key stakeholders within each of the communities

·       Maintaina database of all community interactions

·       Promote the Autism Friendly Communities on social media, highlighting successes and championing initiatives

·       Support Dublin City Council in preparing to submit its application to the independent judging panel

Key Requirements:

Experience, Education, Skills, and Abilities Required

·       Extensive knowledge of autism and autism related issues

·       Proven track record of training delivery and public speaking

·       Knowledge of disability rights and accessibility issues relating to autism

·       Experience in developing accessible resources

·       Proven track record in project management and delivery

·       Ability to measure impact and implement quality control procedures

·       Ability to coordinate and serve interests of multiple stakeholders

·       Excellent communication, negotiation, interpersonal, team building, and networking abilities

·       A good understanding of budget management

·       Strong computer literacy

·       Full driving licence

Other requirements relevant to the role but not essential are:-

·       Relevant academic qualification

Contract Duration

This is a 3 Year fixed term contract.

Salary & Benefits

Salary will align with Grade IV as set out in the HSE Consolidated Pay Grades.

Location / Working Hours

The role is based in AsIAm’s head office in Blackrock, Dublin and is Monday to Friday, 9:00 am to 5:00 pm with a requirement fortravel. Given the nature of the role, the role holder is required to have a degree of flexibility with regard to working hours as the role will require some evening and weekend work.
