The AsIAm Autism ID Card was created to help Autistic people navigate their daily life more easily. It’s hard to predict what will happen day-to-day and sometimes we can find ourselves in a place where we feel overwhelmed, confused, or just need a little help. The Autism ID Card helps you to advocate for yourself or your child.
It contains a short description of an individual's Autistic support needs and a reminder that the person with the card may need some extra help and support. Not only this, but many organisations have partnered with AsIAm to give special offers and deals to cardholders!
Please note that we are experiencing huge demand for our ID cards currently, and the waiting time can be approximately 30 working days.
All new cards and renewals cost €25 and come with an AsIAm Lanyard and card protector.
This cost covers admin, printing and equipment.
There is a €15 charge for a replacement/lost card.
Ordinarily, you will receive your card within about two weeks, however we are experiencing huge demand for our ID cards currently, and the waiting time can be approximately 30 working days. (Updated: Oct 2024)
Childrens cards are valid for 3 years.
Adults cards are valid for 5 years.
The card serves as a proof of diagnosis and you can use it when interacting with different service providers, including public servants and those working in private businesses. Any support provided is at the service’s discretion.
It does not automatically entitle cardholders and/or their companions to discounts or preferential treatment over other customers, though AsIAm is currently in talks with a number of businesses and service providers to provide certain supports and benefits to cardholders.
The Autism ID Card is accepted in many places. The following organisations have contacted us to say that the card will offer certain concessions. Please check with the business as to what these are as they are subject to change from time to time.
In order to be eligible for an Autism ID Card, proof of diagnosis will be required. There will be several forms of acceptable documents for this, such as an assessment report’s front page or a letter from a clinician confirming diagnosis of autism.
These may be scanned and uploaded with the initial application. They will be appropriately destroyed as soon as the card is produced and will not be re-used or shared with any third party.
We will also require a picture of the applicant, with guidelines set in the application process.
All residents of the island of Ireland, including those living in Northern Ireland, may apply for and use the Autism ID Card.
We will accept a diagnosis from any resident of the Republic of Ireland and/or Northern Ireland. However, we must stress that recognition of the document is at the discretion of the service.
