AsIAm's St Patrick’s Day resources

As communities across Ireland prepare to celebrate St Patrick’s Day, AsIAm has published a series of free resources designed to help Autistic people and their families enjoy the day in a way that works for them.

St Patrick’s Day can be an exciting time, with parades, celebrations and gatherings taking place across towns and cities. However, for some Autistic people these environments can also feel overwhelming due to crowds, noise and unfamiliar routines. To support families in planning ahead and making the day more accessible, AsIAm has created three practical resources that can be used at home, in school, or while attending local celebrations.

The St Patrick’s Day Visual Guide provides a step-by-step explanation of what to expect during a parade, including crowds, music and performances, and offers practical suggestions such as wearing ear defenders or moving to a quieter space if needed.

Families can also download St Patrick’s Day Communication Cards, which include clear visual prompts such as “Yes”, “Stop”, “Wait”, “Help”, “Rest” and “Parade”. These can help children communicate their needs and preferences during busy events.

Finally, the St Patrick’s Day Activity Pack offers a range of fun and creative activities including colouring pages, word tracing exercises, matching games and a themed word search to help children engage with the celebrations in a relaxed and enjoyable way.

These resources are designed to support families, schools and communities in making St Patrick’s Day celebrations more inclusive and accessible for Autistic children.
